I bet that most people heard about Romania by association with the famous character Dracula the so called vampire. I’m not going to divagate about whether he was a vampire or not J
After all, this is a real estate blog, but between you and I, he was not a vampire JJ
Anyway, 2 years ago I had the chance to buy a huge residence facing the castle of Bran, so called the Dracula castle. The house used to be a library in the communist era and a place of meeting for the nobility when Romania used to be a Kingdom.
The owner, now living in Canada, a descendent of a famous and reach university teacher, was asking the ridiculous price of 70,000 Euros, money he urgently needed to pay the lawyers in order to regain other properties, sized by the communists.
None of the less, the house was in ruins but still kept the architectural grander from when it used to be a pearl of the Carpathians’. The view was magnificent, almost breath taking. The house was surrounded by mountains and the castle itself was clearly visible from almost any angle.
The one who was to buy it, had to invest at least 100,000 Euros to make it shine like it used to, but it was worth it.
I hesitated, because I knew about the amount of work and responsibility involved in such a project.
I asked the owner to give me a week to think about. Well, in the meantime someone else found out that it is for sale and bought it right away, no questions asked.
I still feel sorry, for losing the opportunity of owning a piece of history, but what can you do?
When someone is winning, someone else is losing, that’s what life is all about, isn’t it?
I’m sure Dracula was a nice guy, and if he was to live in our times, I bet he would have been no more than a frustrated real estate broker. JJJ
