Antigua and Barbuda Real Estate | Jumby Bay a private island off the coast of Antigua

Author Ken Follett, Lord Sainsbury and financier Roland Franklin are among the estate owners on Jumby Bay, a private island off the coast of Antigua. Accessible only by boat, the 300-acre island is operated like a giant co-op, with about 60 home owners controlling the property, which is anchored by an A-list hotel operated by Rosewood Resorts.

No cars are allowed on the island; golf carts are the primary form of transportation. Several rare forms of fauna are found on the island, which is one of the world’s primary nesting sites for Hawksbill turtles. “What makes this island truly unique is what it doesn’t have: crowds, beach vendors, jet skis, horns, sirens, trucks, cars, shopping centers, supermarkets, clubs, casinos, and office buildings,” marketing material say.

Jumby offers a small variety of villas and houses, with about a dozen currently for sale, according to Jumby Bay Real Estate. But the island’s signature properties are massive waterfront estates, most fronting picturesque white-sand beaches.

Here are two examples of estates offered through Sotheby’s International:

* “Eagles landing” is a 2.96-acre estate with boat dock, tennis court, infinity pool, putting green, croquet pitch and guest house, priced at $24.75 million (€15.9 million).

The Flint House sits on 9.6 acres with more than 1,000-feet of private beach. The grounds include a 500-foot boat dock, saltwater swimming pool, tennis court, tropical gardens and putting green. The 15,000-square-feet of living space includes nine bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. Priced at $40 million (about €25.7 million).
